Shoulder workshop by Jeff Smith Aug. 20

Jeff Smith will be teaching a M. Feldenkrais inspired workshop, “As the shoulders go, so goes the body. The importance of the shoulder joint in organizing movement.” Saturday, August 20, 2011. 3-6 pm. $80. Jeff will be sharing many movement principles, hands on techniques, and exercises he has developed over the years that have proved effective for his clients.  Many strategies were designed specifically for women with a range of shoulder issues, including frozen shoulder, necrosis of the shoulder joint, and torn rotator cuff muscles.  This workshop will address specific challenges in the use of the arms that are unique to women. It is also applicable to men.  His work is inspired by Moshe Feldenkrais.    Jeff Smith teaches M. Feldenkrais Fitness and Women’s Postural Body Sculpting at his New Moves Studio in Mill Valley.  He has a lifelong background in sports and began dancing in college.  He has spent the last 20 plus years combining the elements of movement and resistance, creating countless exercises that improve posture and performance. The workshop has been postponed until September. Date to be announced.

Stomach Massage 1; Romana’s tip

copyright 2007 Jennifer StaceyIn the Stomach Massage 1, Romana copyright 2007 Jennifer StaceyKryzanowska used to say “Top of the shoulders in line with the (front) edge of the carriage.” Try to sit on your sit bones. Lift up and over (forwards) in the elongated Spine Stretch position, energy reaching out through the crown of the head.  Do not sink into your lower back (which can be bad for the discs, and dysfunctional dura, it can block the rhythm of the spinal fluid flow between the sacrum and cranium and can cause unhealthy neural tension).
