Joe Pilates performing the Stomach Massage using 2 springs Chuck Rappaport says! Joe’s shoulders are in line with the front of the carriage, just like Romana used to say. This means he is up and over in an elongated Spine Stretch rather than slumped back (which can be hard on your discs, dura and cranial sacral rhythm among other things). Also note that he is not squished into the barre so placing a block in the track to accommodate people’s size and flexibility is fine. I am so excited that my particular focus on the details of the Stomach Massage are on the right track! Perfect footage of this often misunderstood skill. Joe does have a photo of “good” technique and “bad”(slumped back) technique in his book. This is even better footage.
